Body

Recommended Motion:

MOVE TO APPROVE THE STREET CLOSURES AND THE USE OF CITY FACILITIES FOR THE KIWANIS SPRINT IN THE PARK TRIATHLON TO BE HELD APRIL 1, 2017.

Background/Discussion:

The Kiwanis of Litchfield has presented the Mini Triathlon since 2008.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017.  The event is limited to the first 150 individuals who register and will consist of a 300 yd. swim in the Litchfield Park Recreation Center Pool, a 5K run, and a 4.2 mile bicycle ride.  The event will begin at 6:30 a.m. and should end by 10:00 a.m.

A map of the run and bicycle route is included as part of this communication.

Old Litchfield Rd. will be closed on the west side going south, from Wigwam Blvd. to the tennis courts of the Recreation Center to accommodate the start/finish line for the run and the bike ride.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Litchfield Park Recreation Center.  The Kiwanis of Litchfield will provide the necessary liability insurance for the event and the City of Litchfield Park will be listed as an additional insured.

The Kiwanis Club has arranged support from the Litchfield Park Posse for traffic support and safety. They will also make the Goodyear Fire Department aware of this event.

Staff Recommendation:

Approve the request as proposed.
